If you use a pair of Monster brand headphones using Apple’s Remote and Mic technology and if you’ve been noticing your iPhone or iPad fritzing out on you when they’re plugged in, don’t worry: it’s not in your imagination and you haven’t just gotten a dud pair. There’s an issue with Monster cans, and Cupertino is very aware of it.
The issue? The flanges. According to an internal Apple document leaked to Boy Genius Report, the Monster headphones in question all use conductive flanges, which can result in electrical shorts that cause an iPod, iPad or iPhone to pause and play erratically.
The internal document goes on to say that numerous Monster brand cans are using improper use of Apple’s Remote and Mic technology, and “do not meet Apple’s technical specifications.”
This isn’t a small problem: over twenty different types of Monster headphones are susceptible to the problem, including the Jamz, Lil Jams, Turbine and Heartbeats line. Since it’s Monster at fault here, Apple’s not going to patch this problem up, so you should get in contact with Monster if you want to get a refund.
